Many people imagine a water detector as a digital water meter: it measures liters, detects too much water and raises an alarm. The Enzo one.drop works fundamentally differently: more precisely, more intelligently and without needing reference values. The physical foundation: temperature reveals what water does At the core of the sensor are two high-precision temperature sensors. One sits directly on the water pipe, while the other measures the ambient temperature in the room. These two measurements continuously feed into the Enzo one.drop AI. The underlying principle is physically clear: fresh mains water from the ground is colder than room air. When water is used — while showering, cooking or running the washing machine — the pipe temperature drops measurably. Once the water use stops, the pipe warms back up and aligns with the ambient temperature. Essential This warming-up phase is the moment our system continuously watches. What the AI does with this This is where the actual work of the Enzo one.drop begins. The AI analyzes the temperature data in real time and evaluates it in context: time of day, duration, your household’s historical usage patterns and deviations from the expected temperature curve. If a pipe does not return to ambient temperature after water has been used — even though no intentional water use is taking place — the system concludes that water is continuously flowing somewhere. This could be a dripping valve, a toilet that runs slightly, or a leak behind a wall that is invisible to the naked eye. The system reports Continuous water flow detected. Why temperature is more precise than liters A volume-based sensor would need reference values. When is consumption “normal”? After filling a pool? During a long day in the garden? Without context, these questions cannot be answered reliably. The principle The temperature principle does not ask “how much?” It asks: is water flowing continuously even though it should not be? This enables reliable detection of micro-leaks: silent leaks that remain unnoticed for months and cause hidden structural damage long before they become visible on walls or ceilings. Sometimes it is a dripping tap. Sometimes it is a toilet that runs occasionally. That is exactly why every notification is followed by a structured process, not an automatic alarm. Installing the Enzo one.drop: how it works Install the Enzo one.drop yourself — without tools or a plumber. Step-by-step instructions. The Enzo one.drop is designed so you can install it yourself — without tools and without a plumber. All you need is your home’s main water pipe, your smartphone and about 5–10 minutes. This guide explains step by step how the installation works and what to look for when choosing the right mounting position so the sensor can measure accurately from the beginning. Before you begin 1. Charge the sensor Fully charge the Enzo one.drop before you begin the installation. A full battery ensures that the sensor is not interrupted during setup. Cable tie note The included cable tie is reusable. Please do not cut it. 2. Download the Enzo app In the meantime, download the Enzo app to your smartphone. You can find it here: Google Play Store Apple App Store 3. Set up the app Open the app and tap “I already have a one.drop sensor”. Enter the email address you used when ordering — the same address where you received your order and shipping confirmation. Your user account has already been created automatically before the sensor arrived. You do not need to register separately anywhere. Find the right place on the pipe Every house has a different pipe system, so there is no single universal mounting position. The following points will help you find the best spot for your setup. As early as possible in the pipe system We recommend installing the sensor as early as possible in the pipe system, ideally where the water supply enters the house, near the water meter. Choose a clean section of pipe that is at least 1 meter away from a wall where the pipe enters or leaves the building. The sensor monitors everything that comes after it. The earlier it sits in the system, the more comprehensive the coverage. A free, undisturbed pipe section Choose a location with at least 20 cm distance from valves, pipe brackets or wall penetrations. A free, undisturbed pipe section supports clean measurement. Horizontal on top — the ideal orientation The optimal mounting position is horizontally on top of the pipe. In this position, gravity helps the sensor sit firmly on the pipe and keeps the thermal pad in continuous contact with it. Also make sure the sensor faces open space, not directly toward a wall, ceiling, floor, other pipes or devices. This ensures an undisturbed measurement of the ambient temperature. If the pipe is closer than 5 cm to a wall, we recommend turning the sensor slightly toward the room. This keeps good contact with the pipe and avoids interference with the measurement. Essential The thermal pad must sit tightly and fully against the pipe, and the cable tie must be firmly tightened. Pipe material The sensor works with all common pipe materials. The most precise measurements are achieved on copper or brass pipes, because they transmit temperature changes especially quickly. On plastic or stainless-steel pipes, sensitivity is slightly lower, but reliable detection is still possible. If you have a choice, prefer a copper or brass pipe. Clean the pipe Thoroughly wipe the mounting location before installation. Dust, dirt or oxidation residue on the pipe can affect the contact of the thermal pad and reduce measurement accuracy. Remove pipe insulation If your pipe is insulated, remove the insulation at the mounting point and about 20 cm before and after it. Insulation around the sensor would prevent it from correctly measuring the pipe temperature. Distance from devices and heat sources The Enzo one.drop continuously measures the temperature of the pipe and the surrounding air. Do not install the sensor directly next to devices or influences that could affect the ambient temperature, such as freezers, washing machines, water softeners, heating systems or windows. Nearby heat or cold sources can distort the measurement. Mount the sensor and install it in the app Then open the Enzo app. You will be asked to scan the QR code on your sensor. The app will then guide you through the rest of the setup with illustrated step-by-step instructions. Once you have found the right position, attach the sensor to the pipe with the included cable tie. The cable tie is reusable — please do not cut it. Important Before tightening, make sure the small grey thermal pad on the underside of the sensor lies directly and fully on the pipe. The thermal pad is the sensor’s measuring point; only direct contact with the pipe allows precise measurement. Then tighten the cable tie so the sensor cannot slip. After installation: the calibration phase After installation, the Enzo one.drop calibrates itself automatically during the first 2–3 weeks. During this time, the system learns your individual water-usage pattern and refines its analysis accordingly. You do not need to do anything during this phase. How do I log in to the app for the first time? Your user account is created automatically before you receive your sensor, so you do not need to register separately. After downloading the app, tap “I already have a one.drop sensor” and enter the email address you used when ordering. You will then receive a 6-digit one-time code by email. Please also check your spam or junk folder. Important: keep the app open in the background while copying the code from the email. How will I know when the battery needs to be charged? How does the sensor actually detect a leak? The Enzo one.drop does not measure liters; it measures temperature. Two high-precision temperature sensors continuously record the pipe temperature and the ambient temperature. When water is used, for example while showering, cooking or doing laundry, the pipe cools down. Once the water use stops, the pipe normally warms back up to room temperature. If that warming does not happen — if the pipe remains cold even though nobody is using water — the AI detects that water is flowing continuously somewhere. How do I charge the sensor? First open the cable tie using the small lever mechanism. Please do not cut it; it is reusable. Remove the sensor from the pipe and charge it with a standard USB-C cable for at least 24 hours, or until the app shows 100% battery. My water meter shows nothing. Can the sensor still detect a leak? Yes, and that is one of the major advantages of the Enzo one.drop. Conventional water meters react only from around 1 liter of flow, and even very sensitive models only from about 100 milliliters. I cannot turn off the water for 6 hours. What happens then? The test can be planned flexibly. Ideal times are periods when you do not need water anyway, for example at night or when you are away during the day. Contact us and we will find a suitable time together. Do I need Wi-Fi in the basement for the sensor? No. The Enzo one.drop does not require Wi-Fi or a SIM card. There is nothing to set up or configure. The sensor has a permanently integrated IoT connection — a slim, energy-efficient cellular module made for smart devices — which allows it to connect to the internet independently. How should I place the sensor on the pipe — horizontally or vertically? The ideal position is horizontally on top of the pipe. This lets gravity help the sensor sit firmly on the pipe and keeps the small grey thermal pad in continuous contact with the pipe for optimal measurement. Also pay attention to the distance from the wall. Ideally, the sensor should point toward open space, not toward the wall. If your pipe runs along a wall, we recommend mounting the sensor on the side facing away from the wall. If the sensor sits on top of a pipe that is very close to a wall, it may be too close to the wall and the ambient-temperature measurement can be affected. If top mounting is not possible, the sensor can also be mounted on the side, as long as it faces open space. What is the Pipe Score, and what does it tell me? The Pipe Score is a number between 0 and 100 that gives you a quick overview of the overall condition of your system. Several factors are included in the score: the quality of the sensor installation, battery level, your water-usage pattern, detected anomalies and the sensor signal strength. A score of 100 means that everything is running optimally. A lower score is not necessarily a cause for concern. If something needs your attention, you will be actively notified through the app and by email. For a detailed breakdown, tap the small arrow next to the Pipe Score in the top right of the app. The blue “i” icon gives you additional explanations for each point. I currently have guests. Will higher water use trigger the sensor? No. The sensor does not react to a short-term increase in water use. It specifically checks whether continuous water flow is present during rest phases, meaning when nobody is actively using water. I do not have enough space to install the sensor. The installation requirements shown in the app describe the ideal setup, but many sensors work reliably even when the conditions are not perfect. Install the sensor as well as possible at the best available position and send us two photos of the installation in the final step of the app setup. During the first weeks, our team will use the sensor data to check whether the installation works. If it does not, we will contact you with further guidance. How do I check whether my toilet is losing water? A running toilet is one of the most common causes of continuous water flow and is often barely visible. The simplest test: place a small piece of dry toilet paper flat against the inside edge of the bowl, just above the water line, and wait exactly 10 minutes. If the paper is completely soaked afterwards, water is very likely running continuously. If it is only partly wet or still dry, the result is not a clear indication. Important: the result is only valid with exactly 10 minutes of waiting time. The Pipe Score changed suddenly. Should I be worried? Not necessarily. Changes in the Pipe Score can have different causes, such as a lower battery level, a slightly changed sensor position or a new irregularity in the water flow. Check in the app which individual factor changed.
